P!nk has revealed how she ‘nearly died’, weeks before signing her first record deal at age 16.
In the interview with 60 Minutes, Alecia Moore recounts how she was at a rave on the night of Thanksgiving in 1995 and overdosed.
“I was selling drugs. And then I was kicked out of the house. I dropped out of high school. I was off the rails.” she explained about her troubled teen years.
“I was on ecstasy, angel dust, crystal, all kinds of things, and then I was out, done, too much.”
She shared how after the incident, she stopped using drugs immediately and weeks later signed a record deal.
She signed with LaFace Records to be a member of an RNB girls group called Choice, which she described as ‘token white girls on a black label’.
The singer launched her solo career in 2000, introducing her own sound with her first hit ‘There You Go’, which became her first top-ten hit on the Billboard 100 chart.
She also spoke about how the success of her shows often gets overlooked and doesn’t get coverage as other artists do,
“We’ve sold 3 million tickets in the last 6 months but, you don’t really hear about it unless you went,” she said.
She went on to explain that as long as her fans who attended the show had a good time, that was all that mattered.
She even showed off her impressive vocal training skills where you can see someone stand on her stomach yet she is still able to sing beautifully. (skip to 10.10 in to see)
